About the event

This is a 2-day intensive AutPlay® Certification training with Dr. Robert Grant, the creator of AutPlay® Therapy. Dr. Grant is a Licensed Professional Counselor, National Certified Counselor, Registered Play Therapist Supervisor, and Certified Autism Specialist.  Dr. Grant specializes in play therapy techniques with children, adolescents, adults, and families.  Dr. Grant also specializes in working with Autism Spectrum Disorder, Neurodevelopmental Disorders, and Developmental Disabilities and is the creator of AutPlay® Therapy, an Autism treatment using play therapy, behavioral therapy, and relationship development approaches. Dr. Grant operates the AutPlay Therapy Clinic in Springfield, MO. He has authored several publications and written four books on the subjects of play therapy, Autism, and ADHD including the bestselling AutPlay Therapy for Children and Adolescents on the Autism Spectrum. Dr. Grant conducts various presentations and workshops on topics such as play therapy and Autism. Dr. Grant has conducted trainings and workshops throughout the United States and internationally and has presented at various area and national conferences including the American Counseling Association, the American Mental Health Counselors Association, and the Association for Play Therapy.

This training is appropriate for Mental Health Professionals, Play Therapists, Social Workers, Psychologists, and School Counselors. This is an in-person/contact training worth 16 CE Hrs. This training is also appropriate for Occupational Therapists, Speech and Language Pathologists, Special Education Teachers, and other professionals in case management, education, and medical fields working with children and adolescents with autism disorders and other neurodevelopmental disorders. These professionals will receive a certification signifying completion of 16 training hours.

Day One will present an overview of autism and other neurodevelopmental disorders.

The tenets of AutPlay Therapy will be presented including the six treatment target areas

of AutPlay and the sequence/phases of treatment. Parent training and intake and

assessment protocols will also be covered. AutPlay theoretical foundations of Play

Therapy and Behavioral Therapy will be covered and several directive Play Therapy

techniques will be demonstrated.

Learning Objectives Day One:

1) Participants will gain an overview of autism spectrum disorder and other

neurodevelopmental disorders.

2) Participants will learn the components of AutPlay Therapy including: the phases of

treatment, target treatment goals, and intake and screening instruments.

3)Participants will understand how to incorporate parents and other family members in

treatment.

4) Participants will learn about the theoretical underpinnings of AutPlay Therpay

including play therapy approaches and behavioral therapy.

5) Participants will be able to structure play therapy session and design interventions to

be most effective with children with autism spectrum disorder.

6) Participants will learn several play therapy interventions used in AutPlay Therapy

through experiential participation and session clips.

Day Two will present The AutPlay Follow Me Approach designed for children and

adolescents with a more severe impairment. Understanding regulation issues will be

explored with several regulation focused play therapy interventions presented.

Experiential case conceptualization and treatment planning will be covered. Established

play-based autism treatments will be reviewed as well as current play therapy approaches

that have been effective in treating autism and other neurodevelopmental disorders.

Learning Objectives Day Two:

1) Participants will understand the protocol for the AutPlay Therapy Follow Me

Approach designed for children with a more severe impairment.

2) Participants will learn how to involve parents and other family members in the

AutPlay Therapy Follow Me Approach.

3) Participants will participate in experiential treatment planning, and case

conceptualization.

4) Participants will learn several play therapy regulation interventions.

5) Participants will gain an understanding about established autism treatments

specifically treatments that are play-based and that easily align with AutPlay Therapy.

6) Participants who complete both days will become Certified AutPlay Therapy

Providers.
